Ramsgate’s leading art and community hub, Arts in Ramsgate (AiRs) has recently received a £300 donation from local housebuilder Barratt Homes. The housebuilder, who is behind the new Spitfire Green development on New Haine Road, has contributed to a fundraising campaign to save the centre from officially closing.

Established in 2016, Arts in Ramsgate is an inclusive not-for-profit community centre and gallery in the heart of Ramsgate. A welcoming hub, AiR welcomes people from all kinds of backgrounds, particularly supporting those with complex lives, whether they suffer from poor mental health or chronic illnesses, as well as those with disabilities or isolated. In recent times, AiR has experienced an increase of people coming through their doors, with the community being hit the hardest by the cost of living, health and social care and housing crises. As a result, Barratt Kent has committed to ensuring the arts are not forgotten in its local community, with a £300 donation to boost the centre in its fight for survival.

Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt Kent, comments: “The arts are important for human culture and are a lifeline for people living in the communities where we build. With costs rising in every part of life, not-for-profit organisations are amongst those hit the hardest, and it is our duty to be able to support them in any way we can. We are proud to aid a club who has worked tirelessly in Ramsgate, and we cannot afford to lose such an important community pillar.”

Jemma Cullen, volunteer at AiR adds: “Given how difficult the economic climate is as well as the crisis within NHS mental health provision, ensuring the community is able to come together and express themselves creatively is crucial at this time. Everyone is welcome at Arts in Ramsgate, we offer free arts, wellbeing and social activities as we understand that individual mental health and community health are intertwined. We are ourselves going through difficult times at present though, and fear losing the organisation due to illness and needing to rely on funding. We are so grateful to Barratt Kent for its generous donation, and we encourage any donation, no matter how big or small. We are also available as a gallery and creative workshop space for hire, please be in contact if you are interested in supporting us by hiring our space.”
