The scheme is available at a discounted value of 20% for those who live or work in the district of Thanet, was previously a resident in Thanet and has close family member who resides in the district, or those who need to live in Thanet to support a family member. Eligible buyers must also earn a maximum of £80,000 per year.

The apartments, located on New Haine Road, have already launched off-plan, with 12 available to buy using the Discount Market Sale (DMS) scheme from 17th June. Prices for these homes will start from £188,000, and the initiative is exclusively designed to help local residents to afford to purchase their own home. All homes at Spitfire Green, including the newly launched apartments, have been constructed with energy efficiency in mind, with measures in place such as energy efficient boilers and high levels of insulation, that ensure a new Barratt home is up to 57% cheaper to run than the same sized older home with modern day improvements.[1]

Spitfire Green has 4.5 acres dedicated to open space, comprising of green areas, play parks and biodiversity sections. A network of walkways and cycle paths ensure residents have easy access throughout the development, into Ramsgate and beyond. Other wildlife friendly measures include bee-friendly planting, bat boxes, hedgehog highways, and additional planting of ornamental trees and new hedgerows.

Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt Kent, comments: “Today’s first time buyers are feeling the pressure of high mortgage rates, the cost of rent eating into savings, and the challenges posed by the high cost of living. As such, we feel a responsibility to ease the affordability challenge for first buyers. As a family housebuilder, we are committed to investing in local communities so that residents can afford to stay in the place they grew up for generations to come. Very few housebuilders in Kent are offering Discount Market Sale homes, therefore we are proud to be leading the way for much needed affordable housing, as well as offering other options to help all types of buyers at Spitfire Green such as our Key Worker Deposit Scheme and Deposit Unlock.”

“Not only are we launching our DMV apartments at Spitfire Green, we are also going one step further to help first time buyers by collaborating with IKEA UK on bespoke furniture packs and free planning sessions for those who buy at the development. IKEA offer a wider range of affordable furniture for buyers across the country, and we understand that in the current climate, expensive furniture can be an added high cost for people stepping a foot on the property ladder. With their long-standing reputation of being the first port of call for people buying their first home, buyers will have access to a unique furniture pack designed specifically for homes at Spitfire Green, and one on one remote planning sessions with IKEA’s interior design specialists. This partnership proves our commitment to going above and beyond in helping local buyers achieve their dream of home ownership ”

Spitfire Green is situated to the north of Ramsgate, three miles from the coastline, and takes its name from the town’s rich RAF history. Ramsgate benefits from a number of good transport links, with Thanet Parkway Station set to be complete from the end of July with high-speed with services to Ashford and London within a 7-minute drive from the development. Residents will be within walking distance of a number of Outstanding and Good schools, including Little Scarecrows Nursery, Newington Community Primary School and Laleham Gap School.

There is also an array of pubs, restaurants, high street stores, doctors surgeries and supermarkets in the town centre, whilst Westwood Retail Park is just a five minute drive away. Ramsgate seafront will benefit from a £60m investment as the Pleasurama funfair is redevelopment, while the town and its surrounding areas will benefit from £500m of regeneration money over the next three to five years.
